The Hanged Man: Where Surrender Brings New Perspective
Share
Surrender to the pause! 12/21 The Hanged Man.
After Justice's balance comes The Hanged Man - the card of surrender, suspension, and seeing the world from a completely different angle.
In my hand-embroidered tarot series, The Hanged Man represents those moments when the creative process stalls, and we must surrender to the waiting, trusting that new perspective will emerge.
The Symbolism
A figure hangs upside down from a living tree, suspended by one foot. Yet his face is serene, even enlightened. A halo glows around his head, showing that this suspension is voluntary and sacred. His free leg forms a figure-four, and his arms create a triangle - symbols of spiritual wisdom gained through surrender.
This card asks: What happens when you stop struggling? What do you see when you turn your world upside down?
My Interpretation
Stitching The Hanged Man required patience and acceptance - sometimes the work doesn't flow, and forcing it only creates tension. The reclaimed linen hangs suspended between its past life and its future as art, in that limbo space where transformation happens.
The Hanged Man reminds us that not all progress looks like forward motion, that sometimes we must pause and see things differently before we can move ahead.
The Hanged Man's Message
- Surrender - Let go of the need to control
- Perspective - See your situation from a new angle
- Patience - Trust the timing of your life
- Sacrifice - Sometimes we must give up one thing to gain another
- Enlightenment - Wisdom comes in unexpected ways
