Confronting the shadows! 15/21 The Devil.
After Temperance's balance comes The Devil - the card of bondage, materialism, and the chains we place on ourselves.
In my hand-embroidered tarot series, The Devil represents the creative blocks and self-imposed limitations that hold us back from our full potential.
The Symbolism
A horned devil figure sits on a pedestal while two naked humans stand chained before it. But look closely - the chains are loose enough to slip off. The inverted pentagram above the devil's head represents spirit trapped in matter. The torch in the devil's hand burns but gives no light, symbolizing false illumination.
This card asks: What chains are you choosing to wear? What illusions keep you trapped?
My Interpretation
Stitching The Devil meant confronting the shadow side of creativity - perfectionism, comparison, the fear that keeps us from sharing our work. The reclaimed linen reminds us that even what seems worthless or discarded can be freed from its chains and transformed.
The Devil reminds us that most of our prisons are self-made, that we have more power than we think, and that recognizing our chains is the first step to removing them.

- Awareness - See the chains you've placed on yourself
- Shadow work - Confront what you've been avoiding
- Freedom - You have the power to walk away
- Illusion - Question what you believe limits you
- Choice - You're more free than you realize
