The Fool: Where the Journey Begins | Tiny Tarot Art Series

The journey begins! 0/22 The Fool.

Every journey starts with a single step into the unknown. In tarot, that step belongs to The Fool - the very first card of the Major Arcana, numbered zero because it represents infinite potential and new beginnings.

The Fool represents new beginnings and the leap of faith needed to start something new. For me, that meant starting my most ambitious 'Waste to Wonder' project: hand-embroidering the entire Major Arcana onto an old table mat.

The Symbolism

The Fool stands at the edge of a cliff, gazing upward at the sky rather than down at the precipice. A small dog accompanies them - sometimes seen as a warning, sometimes as a loyal companion. The Fool carries only a small bundle on a stick, traveling light, unburdened by the past.

This card asks: What if you trusted the journey? What if you took that leap?

My Interpretation

In stitching The Fool, I focused on that moment of pure possibility - the lightness, the courage, the beautiful naivety of beginning something without knowing where it will lead. The reclaimed linen I'm using adds another layer of meaning: giving old materials new purpose, just as The Fool gives us permission to start fresh.

Each stitch is a small act of faith, building something meaningful one thread at a time.

  • Trust - The universe supports those who leap
  • Innocence - Approach life with curiosity, not cynicism
  • Freedom - Travel light, let go of what weighs you down
  • Potential - You contain infinite possibilities
