In Cantonese culture, birthdays are deeply meaningful. Wishing someone a happy birthday in their own language is one of the most heartfelt things you can do — and today, you're going to learn exactly how.

🗣️ How to Pronounce It
生日快樂 — Saang Yat Faai Lok
Break it down:
- Saang — rhymes with "sang"
- Yat — like "yut" (short and sharp)
- Faai — like "fye"
- Lok — like "lock"
Say it slowly: Saang… Yat… Faai… Lok 🌸 Then put it together: Saang Yat Faai Lok! 🎉
🌟 Fun Fact
In traditional Cantonese culture, birthdays are celebrated with longevity noodles (壽麵, Sau Min) — long noodles that symbolise a long and healthy life. The longer the noodle, the better! 🍜
Red eggs are also a traditional birthday gift, symbolising happiness and good luck. 🥚❤️
✏️ Activities
1. Say it out loud! Practise saying 生日快樂 (Saang Yat Faai Lok) three times. Say it slowly, then at normal speed.
2. Send it to someone! Think of someone with a birthday coming up. Send them a voice note saying Saang Yat Faai Lok — they'll love it! 🎂
3. Write it! Try writing 生日快樂 by hand. Trace each character slowly and notice the strokes.
